Goerland's Brownie Troop (GS Troop 7578)
at the CLF Spruce-Up Saturday ( 4/9/2011 ).
| Great
weather for the 2011 Polar Bear Dare! A bit warmer than last year,
but 60 degree water temperature is still a shock to your system!
Once again hot chocolate, doughnuts and ice cream were served!!
Sixty-ish of our neighbors watched thirty plus brave swimmers of
all ages take the plunge, this year earning a CLF Polar Bear Dare
ceramic mug, plastic water bottle and a free T-shirt. Thanks also
to Gulf Coast Aquatics for donating doughnuts and providing two
hardy lifeguards. Plan to attend next year on the first Saturday
of the new year from 10:00 am to noon. Meet your neighbors and take
bragging rights back to the office or school! Keep an eye out in
the Houston Chronicle for pictures in the next week or so. |

| They called
their event “Neighbor to Neighbor.” Over 200 people came to
celebrate. They gathered for a picnic beneath a cloud-patched sky on a Sunday
afternoon at Baronridg Park, adjacent to Pasadena (Mud) Lake. There were
grandparents and young couples with toddlers. Children were flying a kite.
Teens windsurfed and kayaked. All listened to the musicians playing jazz.
It was a fun event.
It all began when six couples in the Clear Lake Forest subdivision, who attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, decided they wanted to get to know their neighbors better. They also wanted to give something to their community: the opportunity for the neighbors to get to know better their neighbors, some who possibly even lived on their street. The small committee then contacted the members of Gloria Dei who lived in the subdivision and asked them to invite their friends and neighbors in the subdivision to the picnic, asking each to bring a side dish. The Holy Smokers furnished the barbeque. The
people came. They visited. They laughed and listened to each others stories.
When the Sunday afternoon crowd left for home, they had made new friends.
Others they had learned to know better. It was a neighbor to neighbor
bonding together event. |
