April 10 Spring Spruce-Up Volunteers

Thanks to all the Clear Lake Forest residents, young and old, who pitched in and helped to Spruce Up our neighborhood on April 10th. We had probably the best turn out of support of any Spruce Up! Clear Lake Forest has a history of residents volunteering to make improvements both minor and substantial. In addition to the material improvements it’s a great way to meet neighbors and feel a part of a real community. Projects were completed at Baronridge Park (repairs on the bulkhead, cleaning under the Scout Hut, and cleaning/weeding around the playground equipment), the pool (carpentry, cleaning and planting rose bushes) and at the Forest Lake entrance (repairs to the lights). There’s still work to be done, particularly at the pool, so feel free to contact a board member if you’d like another chance to make your mark! The following are your neighbors that worked this past weekend (We apologize if we missed someone – let us know and we’ll add your name!).

Ike Debris Pickup Deadline

According to the City’s website, the City’s last pick-up for debris was October 25th. Therefore, the disposing of fence debris or tree debris is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Please make sure that the contractor used to remove/replace fencing is aware that they are responsible for hauling the debris off.

Ike Debris Removal ( email to Alan Koelemay, 10/04/08 )

As stated, everyone should put all their debris at the curb in two piles; organic and inorganic.

The debris removal company is not FEMA. They are contracted by the city but in order for the city to be refunded by FEMA all regulations/processes must be met. One FEMA rule is that the debris company may not go onto private property. Therefore, all Ike related debris must be brought to the curb in the city .RO.W. This includes the stumps. Most citizens have gotten their stumps to the curb- those that have not done this yet will need to make those arrangements. I am sorry but the city cannot go on private property to remove any debris.

Hurricane Ike Report (initial review)

Baronridge Park: Mud Lake apparently came up to the base of the Scout Hut, but not inside. No
apparent damage to the building itself, but the A/C units that were on stands at both ends of the
building and not as high up, collapsed to the ground and was looked at September 23rd by
Aircon to see what repairs need to be made. The ductwork is in shambles as well.

Also, one of the light poles at the tennis court collapsed and was inspected on September 24th
by Patriot Court Systems to determine repairs that need to be made as well. The other poles will
be looked at too for integrity.

The pier suffered some damage, but it does not appear to be structural. The railing appears to
be loosened a bit and a board on the walkway is missing.

Luckily we lost only two trees and minor damage to other trees, which has been addressed. The
playground equipment looks good.

Pool Facility: Fortunately, we only had relatively minor damage to the trees, fencing around the
equipment rooms suffered damage and the tiles on the top portion of the fireplace at the Pool
building fell of and are scattered on the roof and ground nearby. There were tree limbs, etc. in
the pool itself, but no noticeable damage to the pool itself has been found.

Near Record Rainfall for June 2001

The 12.5 inches recorded for June 2004 at the unofficial Baronridge Rain Gauge location, is second only to the 16.9 inches recorded for June 2001, when we experienced the downpour from Tropical Storm Allison. This compares to the National Weather Services numbers for Houston: June 2004( *18.32 in), and June 2001( *19.21 in.)
