Threaded vs Non-Threaded Configuration

Boards can be configured as either a "Threaded" or "Non-Treaded" board. Which configuration to use depends on how the board is to be used. The difference between the two configurations is the format used to display messages.
In general, if the board is used more as a discussion forum, where users post replies to messages and replies to replies...etc, then the "Threaded" configuration is probably the better format to use.
If the board is used more in the fashion of a Bulletin Board that you might see hanging in the company hallway, i.e. used to post items of interest to the group, the "Non-Threaded" format is the better format.
We will use the "Non-Threaded" format for our Clear Lake Forest Community Bulletin Board

The following User's Guide is a replica of the chart accessible when the Help button to the right of "Bulletin Board Categories" on the Bulletin Board site web page is clicked.

This guide is intended as an orientation guide for Bulletin Board users.
It does not provide information on managing a board.

Operational Buttons

These buttons, located at the top of your board, allow you to View, Modify, Delete, Create, and Search for specific messages. Your board manager may disable/hide one or more of these buttons. Below is a description of each button:

This button is used for you to view all messages on your board.
Each message will have a Subject Title and beneath the subject title the text of the message.

This button is used to create a message. A form is presented to enter
your message and specify which section/category it should be posted into. You'll also create a password to associate with your message, which you can later use to Modify or Delete your message.
Pressing this button provides users with an easy interface (the HTML Formatting Toolbar) for inserting graphics, hyperlinks, smilies, and HTML code into their message. Users can easily add color, bold, italics, font type/size, etc. to their message using the HTML Formatting Toolbar. For a detailed description of the HTML Formatting Toolbar Click Here.

These two buttons allows you to modify or delete messages you've created earlier. Pressing either button
causes the system to prompt you for the message id of the message you want to modify or delete. The message id of each message is displayed at the bottom of each message. Your also need to supply the password you used to create the message. This password ensures only you can modify or delete your message.

This button is used to search for specific messages on your board. Pressing this button
displays a form allowing you to specify search criteria used to qualify messages displayed.
This button is also used to view and search your board's Archived messages.

This button returns you to your board's home page.

This button displays the Frequently Asked Questions page and links to the User's Guide (this page) and the Manager's Guide.

Email Notification    Top

For Non-Threaded Board -- Located just beneath the operational buttons, at the top of your board or
For Threaded Boards -- Located at the bottom of the Message List Window
you'll see a link labeled:
"To be notified whenever a message is posted to this board Click Here"
Clicking this link displays the board's email notification form, allowing you to add your email address to the board's email notification list. The email notification form allows you to request email notification if any new messages are added to the board or alternatively, only if new messages are posted to a specific section/category of the board. Email notification is sent once each night if new messages are detected meeting your specification criteria.

Boards Using Non-Threaded Format

At the top of your board, you'll see a list of the sections/categories defined for your board. Clicking on any category name takes you to that part of your board containing messages for that section/category.

Boards Using Threaded Format
Your board can be divided into a maximum of 12 different sections/categories. Each Section/Category is represented by a Green Folder icon. Each of these 12 folders can contain an unlimited number of topics/threads/messages. Double-Clicking on a folder opens up the folder to display all topics/threads contained within that folder. Realize, each topic/thread/folder can itself contain an unlimited number of new topics/threads/folders. This interface imitates the Microsoft Explorer Window interface, where one folder can contain many other folders.

Display Only Current Messages    Top

This drop-down menu, located near the top of your board,
allows you to request messages for a specific date range. You can request to view messages for one of the following date ranges:
Today, Yesterday, 2 Days Ago, Last Week, Last 2 Weeks, Last Month, or All Messages.
Your setting remains in effect through subsequent sessions until you specify a different view.
